Top-five finishers in state’s 2011 amateur and 2011 mid-amateur championships among the group
February 27, 2012, Pawleys Island, S.C. – Casey Komline and David Evans will be among the 102 amateur golfers from Vermont playing at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club and True Blue Plantation this weekend (March 2-4) as part of a 36-hole better ball of partners pre-season tournament organized by the Vermont State Golf Association. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Association has organized the handicap-flighted event.
Komline, from Dorset, Vt., teamed with his brother, Devin, to win in the gross category (without handicaps) last year while Evans, of South Burlington, Vt., was part of the winning team in the net division (with handicaps). Casey, a sophomore on the Appalachian State (N.C.) University golf team, went on to tie for fifth in the 2011 State Amateur while Devin won the Amateur with four consecutive rounds under par and a -12 total. Evans, meanwhile, finished runner-up at the 2011 Vermont Mid-Amateur Championship.
The group will play at Caledonia on Saturday and True Blue on Sunday. A practice round is also scheduled at True Blue on Friday. Both courses are rated among the “America’s Greatest 100 Public Courses” by Golf Digest.
“We are glad to again welcome the Vermont golfers to our two fine courses,” said Bob Seganti, director of golf for True Blue Golf Plantation and Caledonia Golf Vacations. “We have developed many friendships over the past three years and we hope we play a small part in getting their best amateurs ready for a successful in-state championship season.”
The most well known PGA Tour professional from Vermont is Keegan Bradley, who won the 2011 PGA Championship. Bradley hails from Woodstock, Vt., and attended St. John’s (N.Y.) University.
About Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Built upon the site of a historic 18th century rice plantation in Pawleys Island, S.C., Caledonia Golf & Fish Club has been described as having 18 signature holes, with holes routed around majestic oaks and meandering streams. The picturesque 18th borders the Plantation’s old ricefield and requires a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second shot: a forced carry onto a green that is watched closely by the beautiful antebellum style clubhouse. The 6,526-yard, par-70 course has been named one of Golf Digest’s “Top 25 Courses in South Carolina” and “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses;” a “Top 100 You Can Play” by Golf Magazine; a “Top 100 Modern Courses” and “Best Resort Courses” by Golfweek, South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel’s list of “50 Best Courses” and “Top 100 Best Courses for Women” by Golf for Women.
