Michael Thomas, PGA Selected As Middle Atlantic PGA’s 2012 Assistant Professional Of The Year

March 1, 2012

Stafford, VA – Michael’s roots are in the steel town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where, at the toddler age of four, his dad James, an avid golfer, introduced young Michael to the life-long sport. His father’s love of the game and the quality time they spent together on the course were big factors in keeping Michael interested in the game.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, Michael entered the Golf Academy of the Carolinas where he received an Associate’s degree in Applied Business. From this experience, he decided to become a golf professional and landed his first Assistant job with Cross Creek Golf Club in Beltsville, Maryland. He then moved on to the Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Maryland and finally captured his current position as an assistant at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland.

Taking the lead as the Assistant Professional Director of the Central Chapter in the fall of 2009, Michael relished this opportunity to help other assistant and apprentices advance their careers. Additionally, through his involvement as a Vice-President of the Assistant Professional Association (APA), he has been able to help create many educational and playing opportunities for his fellow professionals. Now serving as the Secretary of the Central Chapter and as the chair for the junior golf committee he wants to continue to create chances for PGA professionals to get involved and become better at what they do.
