Stafford, VA – Service to his Association and to his community and mentoring his PGA Professionals, these are the qualities that Bill “Coach” Strausbaugh passed on in his legacy. Coincidentally, this year’s award recipient, PGA Professional Kevin Taylor, from the Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Maryland, had the rewarding opportunity to work with and learn from Coach first hand.
A native of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, Kevin was introduced to golf by his father at the age of twelve. He was immediately hooked and after earning an Associates Degree from Central Pennsylvania College in Summerdale, Kevin jumped right into a golf career. He held an assistant position for two years under PGA Professional John Wallet at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and then moved on to learn under Coach Strausbaugh as well as Bob Dolan Jr., PGA at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Kevin was elected to PGA Membership while at Columbia and after a short stint with the Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, Maryland, he accepted the head professional position at the Members Club at Four Streams. He was then promoted to General Manager at Four Streams in 2003.
Kevin has served as the MAPGA Central Chapter Secretary, Vice President, and President and as the MAPGA Section Secretary, Vice President and President (2007-2009). He has chaired several of the Section’s Committees over the past 13 years and is currently a member of The PGA of America’s Member Tournament Committee. Kevin also served two consecutive 2-year terms on the USGA Green Section Committee, possibly the only PGA Professional to ever serve on that committee. Additionally, Kevin is a member of the Titleist Leadership Advisory Staff and the Imperial Headwear Regional Advisory Board. Outside of his PGA of America affiliations, Kevin is a member of the Club Managers Association of America.
Kevin was selected as the MAPGA’s Assistant PGA Professional of the Year in 1998, the Horton Smith Award winner in 2001, the Merchandiser of the Year (Private Category) in 2002 and the Middle Atlantic PGA Professional of the Year in 2006. He is an ambassador for the game of golf, using every opportunity to promote golf and the Association so that the public has a greater understanding of the contributions PGA Professionals make to the industry.
