March 10-11 events to benefit Coastal Carolina University scholarships
March 5, 2012, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Dunes Golf and Beach Club will host a weekend’s worth of activities to benefit local Coastal Carolina University students through the Sparks Family Scholarship Fund. The festivities will begin with the inaugural Fuel The Future Celebration at the Club at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 10, and continue with the Third Annual Sparks Family Scholarship Golf Classic golf tournament at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 11.
“We’re excited to add the Fuel The Future Celebration to the schedule of events this year,” said Susan Sparks of Sparks Toyota. “In the two years of the tournament, we have raised over $40,000 for local Coastal Carolina students. Recipients are awarded renewable $5,000 scholarships funded in large part by the tournament. The new pre-tournament Fuel The Future Celebration will only further help the cause.”
The inaugural Fuel The Future Celebration on Saturday will run from 7 to 11 p.m. and includes dinner, live entertainment, an open bar and a silent auction. All proceeds will fund scholarships and an endowment for local Coastal Carolina University students. Tickets to the benefit are $125 per person and can be purchased at www.sparksclassic.com
The Sparks Family Scholarship Golf Classic will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. Spots in the Captains Choice tournament are $200 per individual and $800 for a foursome. Entry includes breakfast, golf, cart, use of the practice facilities, surf-and-turf lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse and a deluxe gift package. About The Dunes Golf and Beach Club
The idea to establish the Dunes Golf and Beach Club was formed in 1947 by the area’s local businessmen. Since its inception, it has proven to be a world-class course, offering the best in golf and service. The Dunes Club hosted the final stage of the 1973 PGA Tour Qualifying School that yielded some of the best known golfers in the game: names like Gary McCord, Ben Crenshaw and Gil Morgan.
It was the host to the prestigious Senior Tour Championship from 1994-1999. The Robert Trent Jones course has been named one of the nation’s “Top 100 Courses” by Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek, and the famed 13th hole, known as “Waterloo,” has been selected by Golf Digest as one of the “Best 18 Holes in America.” The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, the premier golf course in Myrtle Beach, is located at 9000 North Ocean Boulevard.
