More than 20 LPGA golfers at this week’s Founders Cup will carry special doggy headcovers – “Gabriel”, the founding dog of the Arizona group Gabriel’s Angels, providing emotionally healing pet therapy to 13,000 at-risk children around the state annually. Sales of the headcoversbenefit the award-winning non-profit group. Louise Friberg has spearheaded the LPGAawareness effort.
Headcovers can be ordered for $29.95 at the Gabriel’s Angels web site, here(http://bit.ly/uHQOIm). Other headcovers ordered through the Gabriel’s Angels link also benefit the group.
“By encouraging hands-on interaction with our registered therapy dogs, we instill in children a sense of well-being, safety and happiness,” says Gabriel’s Angels founder and CEO Pam Gaber. “We’re helping kids learn core social skills that will prevent them from continuing the cycle of violence as adults.” Gabriel’s Angels teams regularly visit children at group homes, shelters, residential treatment facilities, Boys and Girls Clubs and other sites, where children have the opportunity to build core life behaviors through the unconditional love of the therapy dog. Now in its eleventh year, the organization works with over 100 agencies, providing 150 teams and working with 13,000 children yearly.
The furry headcover is a likeness of Gabriel, Gaber’s Weimaraner, whose healing demeanor with a group of at-risk children inspired the founding of the organization. Gabriel passed away in 2010, but his spirit lives on. The Gabriel headcover, from Daphne’s Headcovers, is fully lined and elasticized to ensure a secure fit on the club and is guaranteed for life. It also brings smiles as a hand puppet and when set atop a water or wine bottle.
