French Lick, IN – French Lick Resort, the award winning resort destination located in southern Indiana, has earned GOLF Magazine’s prestigious Silver Medal Golf Resort Award. The Premier Resort awards were announced in the biennial review of America’s top resort destinations published in the March 2012 issue.
GOLF Magazine compiled its list of top resort destinations by calling on more than 7,000 readers to vote at Golf.com to determine the winners. GOLF Magazine’s Premier Resorts were determined by four criteria; golf, lodging, food and drink, and service. GOLF apportioned 40% of the total to the golf product and 20% to each of the other categories.
The popular Midwest resort destination earns its second Silver Medal ranking since the completion of its $500 million historic restoration and casino development project in 2008. The renovation included the restoration of West Baden Springs Hotel, French Lick Springs Hotel, and the new French Lick Casino. A new world-class spa and vast improvements to the dining and cultural experiences with the Pluto mineral springs also helped in earning the recognition.
In addition, the development of the new Pete Dye Course along with the restoration of the historic Donald Ross Course has helped to keep the resort over the top in the golf category.
The nationally acclaimed Pete Dye Course is regarded as one of the most breathtaking and exciting 18 holes of golf in the country. The course was carefully carved on a dramatic hilltop offering a variety of elevation changes, rugged and dramatic terrain, narrow fairways and challenging bunkers. There are spectacular views from every hole, some that stretch for over 40 miles.
Complementing the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort is the historic Donald Ross Course. The Ross course brings a rich history to the French Lick Resort. The course was site of the 1924 PGA Championship won by the legendary Walter Hagen and hosted other golf greats and celebrities such as Gene Sarazen, Chick Evans, and Bing Crosby. The course is a parkland gem, which meanders up and down the rolling hills a few miles from the main resort.
The resort has been on the national radar in recent years hosting such events as the 2010 the PGA of America’s Professional National Championship and the United States Hickory Open Championship. In 2012, the Big Ten will host the Men’s and Women’s Championships and in 2013 the LPGA Legends will visit French Lick.
French Lick Resort is the only resort in the world that combines the classic history of Donald Ross and the modern day design of the legendary Pete Dye. This combination is a spectacular opportunity for golfers to experience two of the best golf course designers with great gaming.
