Coordinator Meredith Kirk Brings New PGA Youth Program to Six National Golf Management Courses
March 19, 2012, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Registration is now open for a new six-week PGA Junior League Golf for boys and girls ages nine to 13 that will play nine-hole team matches each Saturday afternoon from May 5 through June 9. Each one of the six teams will be identified with a home course, much like the make-up of teams for Little League baseball.
Golfers will represent one of six National Management Group courses in the southern Waccamaw Golf Trail region of the Grand Strand: Blackmoor Golf Club, Litchfield Country Club, Myrtle Beach National, Pawleys Plantation, Tradition Golf Club and Willbrook Plantation. Each golfer will get a team uniform to represent his or her host course. The program is sponsored by the PGA, which adopted the program after an encouraging first year in 2011.
“This is a new and fresh format for junior golf,” said Meredith Kirk, Junior League Golf coordinator. “The league is a fantastic initiative for introducing the game to youngsters without the pressure of needing to have advanced skills to compete.”
To register, contact Meredith Kirk at (843) 602-4701 or by e-mail at meredithkirkgolf@gmail.com. The all-inclusive cost is $225 per person.
The league will use a relaxed two-person scramble format with four teams per match. Substitutions can be made after each hole so that every youngster will get a chance to participate. And each match will be divided into three three-hole segments, with a point awarded for each win.
At the end of the season, an all-star team will be chosen to represent Myrtle Beach in a regional competition. Regional winners will advance to the Junior League Golf World Series.
About National Golf Management Company
The National Golf Management Company was formed in February 2012 with the merger of Burroughs and Chapin Golf Management (B&C) and Myrtle Beach National Company (MBN), making the new company one of the 15 largest golf course management companies in the United States. It is far and away the largest management company on the Grand Strand and one of the leading golf course companies in the Southeast. The merger brought together a total of 23 Myrtle Beach area golf courses.
Burroughs and Chapin Golf Management was formed in 1999, and its list of courses includes Myrtle Beach’s oldest course, Pine Lakes Country Club – the Myrtle Beach area’s first course (circa 1927), and Tidewater Golf Club, a unanimous selection as “Best New Course in America” when it opened in 1990. But the history of the company’s other interests, including real estate in and around Myrtle Beach, dates back more than 100 years. The lineage of the company is traced to F.G. Burroughs and Simeon B. Chapin.
Myrtle Beach National Company was formed in 1971 with the construction of the Arnold Palmer-designed 54-hole golf complex, which includes the West Course, SouthCreek and King’s North. Other courses of distinction include Long Bay Club, Pawleys Plantation and Willbrook Plantation.
