Upscale resort continues to unveil new amenities and elite service
(SYLACAUGA, ALABAMA) – FarmLinks Golf Club – ranked the No. 1 public golf course in Alabama by Golfweek magazine – will host the grand opening of FarmLinks Golf Academy on April 15. The new resort amenity is led by master instructor Layne Savoie, who has coached TOUR professionals and top NCAA Division I men’s programs and players.
FarmLinks Golf Academy’s grand opening starts with lunch, followed by a 1 p.m. short game clinic by Savoie. A 2 p.m. shotgun tournament, including prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin, will cap the day’s events.
The $100 registration is a substantial savings off typical round and clinic fees. To sign up for the event, go to http://farmlinks.org/2483/Grand_Opening.aspx, call 205.520.8524, or email Savoie at layne@FarmLinks.org
Savoie uses TrackMan Pro equipment, a sophisticated, Doppler radar based system which helps him analyze players’ golf swings and ball flights from impact to landing, displaying 3-D trajectory in real time. TrackMan Pro is the industry standard for accuracy, reliability and ease of use. But more than his cutting-edge teaching techniques, Savoie’s extensive experience at the collegiate level puts him in the unique position of being able to effectively evaluate and develop talented junior golfers.
A four-time letterman for the Auburn University men’s golf team, Savoie has enjoyed an illustrious career, teaching golf at the highest levels since the early 1980s. The New Orleans native spent five seasons as a NCAA Div. I coach at Florida State University and the University of Arkansas, where as assistant head coach, he led the men’s golf team to an NCAA Championship runner-up finish in 2009. Savoie instructed at the Chuck Cook Golf Academy at Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas (2001-2006), where he taught numerous PGA and Nationwide Tour players.
“FarmLinks is a special resort, with a fantastic course, exceptional customer service and a family-friendly atmosphere,” Savoie said. “It’s an honor to help launch the new golf academy here. FarmLinks’ overall mission is about improving techniques through individualized instruction, and our programs are built around those same principles. We’re thrilled to offer players from our region – and beyond – the opportunity to become better golfers. And we’re looking forward to investing in the future of the game.”
A wide variety of other programs will be available at the FarmLinks Golf Academy throughout the year, including individual instruction, playing lessons, ladies’ clinics, a short-game school and corporate leisure packages.
“We are thrilled to introduce the FarmLinks Golf Academy to our guests and visitors,” said David Pursell, CEO and founder of FarmLinks. “Layne Savoie is one of the country’s leading golf instructors. He has built an extremely impressive resume and truly understands how to teach golf, with an emphasis on the short game. He uses leading technology to teach players of all levels how to control the ball and how to improve. Layne is the instructor we’ve been looking for our team, and we’re excited he has joined the FarmLinks family.”
The golf academy bolsters the superlative services offered at FarmLinks at Pursell Farms, the award-winning, boutique resort located less 50 minutes from Birmingham Airport (BHM). In addition to the acclaimed course – a focal point of the world’s only agronomic research and demonstration golf facility, which hosted the 89th Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship last summer – FarmLinks at Pursell Farms also provides world-class fishing, hunting, clay shooting, first-rate dining, luxurious cottages, beautiful venues for weddings and events, and high-tech corporate meeting space.
“FarmLinks is already known around the world for providing the best training experience for golf course superintendents and sports field and ground professionals,” said FarmLinks CEO Pursell. “With Layne and our dedicated team putting all of our efforts into this new venture, we believe the golf academy will quickly achieve tremendous feedback and repeat use from our guests.”
