Centennial, Colo. (March 26, 2012) – James Kinney, the Director of Instruction and owner of the GolfTEC Improvement Center in Omaha, is the 2011 Teacher Of The Year in the Nebraska Section of the Professional Golfers Association of America. It is the fourth time in the past five years Kinney has won the award from the Nebraska PGA Section.
Born and raised Omaha, Kinney, 33, is the driving force behind the GolfTEC center in his hometown, where he has given a total of 20,000 golf lessons since opening in November of 2006. A 2001 graduate of Creighton University, where he played NCAA golf for four years, Kinney served as an assistant pro at several Omaha private golf courses prior to starting his GolfTEC business.
Kinney joins the growing list of GolfTEC certified coaches who have been honored by their peers in the industry. He is one of four winners of the 2011 PGA Section Teacher of the Year Award, joining Patrick Nuber in the Colorado PGA Section, Nick Paez of the Northern Ohio PGA Section and Brendan Locke of the Wisconsin PGA Section. Together they bring GolfTEC’s all-time total of PGA and LPGA Section Teacher of the Year awards to 15.
“I appreciate being associated with this award because of so many great teachers who have been honored with it,” said Kinney, a PGA Class A Member who has taught since 2001. “I get teased about not winning that one year (2009), but I am just happy that this award from the Nebraska PGA continues to add credibility to what we do at GolfTEC.”
Kinney alone has taught more that 7,000 lessons at GolfTEC, to students that range in age from under 10 to into their 70s. Through his involvement with the Nebraska PGA, Kinney has volunteered for a variety of programs to grow the game of golf, from giving junior clinics to coordinating golf activities and helping carry out key PGA initiatives.
“I enjoy helping where I can,” Kinney said. “I try to be a leader, by taking what we know at GolfTEC outside the walls to where we can be involved with more golfers in Nebraska.”
Kinney is married and lives in Omaha with his wife and their newborn daughter.
Since 1995, GolfTEC, the world leader in golf improvement, has given more than 3,200,000 lessons at 150 improvement centers in North America, helping golfers shoot lower scores and have more fun on the golf course.
