March 26, 2012, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Dunes Golf and Beach Club has been voted the top golf course in the Grand Strand region for 2012 by the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel. The Dunes also earned the top honor for the region from the panel for the last rankings period in 2010.

More than 100 panelists also chose top courses in the state’s three other regions – Upstate, Midlands and Lowcountry. The raters considered the following criteria in voting: routing, design balance, strategy, equity, variety, setting and experience.

“We are honored to again be recognized as among the best courses in the State,” said Dennis Nicholl, head professional. “The Dunes has a long and distinguished history of accomplishments and awards. With so many great new courses introduced since our beginning (1948), its satisfying to see there still is an appreciation for ‘classic’ course design.”

Nicholl formally accepted the award at the panel’s “Best Courses in South Carolina” Awards Banquet on Sunday, March 25, at the Daniel Island Club.

About The Dunes Golf and Beach Club

The idea to establish the Dunes Golf and Beach Club was formed in 1947 by the area’s local businessmen. Since its inception, it has proven to be a world-class course, offering the best in golf and service. The Dunes Club hosted the final stage of the 1973 PGA Tour Qualifying School that yielded some of the best known golfers in the game: names like Gary McCord, Ben Crenshaw and Gil Morgan.

It was the host to the prestigious Senior Tour Championship from 1994-1999. The Robert Trent Jones course has been named one of the nation’s “Top 100 Courses” by Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and Golfweek, and the famed 13th hole, known as “Waterloo,” has been selected by Golf Digest as one of the “Best 18 Holes in America.” The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, the premier golf course in Myrtle Beach and the only one with Ocean views, is located at 9000 North Ocean Boulevard.
