(PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.) — PGA National Resort & Spa announces the debut of its Champion Course – home of the PGA TOUR Honda Classic – in EA SPORTS Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13, on sale in North America March 27 and worldwide March 30 on the Xbox 360 by Microsoft and Sony PlayStation 3.
Originally designed by George and Tom Fazio, and redesigned by Jack Nicklaus, The Champion joins elite courses including Augusta National, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews as layouts in the world’s number one selling golf video game franchise. Additionally, Crooked Stick, The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, Royal Birkdale, Royal County Down and Valhalla are also newcomers to the franchise.
Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13 includes an array of new features, such as Kinect for Xbox 360 integration, an opportunity to experience Tiger’s golf legacy, online and social features as well as a Collector’s Edition providing even greater access to the Masters Tournament and Augusta National Golf Club. The all new Kinect for Xbox 360 integration allows players to take their game to the next level with the first controller-free, voice-enabled and body tracking sports simulation game ever.
“The Champion is one of the best-conditioned, strategically-demanding courses in the U.S. and we’re thrilled it’s among the select few chosen for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 13,” says Joel Paige, Vice President and Managing Director. “Whether visiting South Florida or now from the comfort of home, golfers can test their mettle against its thrills and perils.”
2005 Honda Classic winner Padraig Harrington says, that outside the majors, The Champion Course is “the best course we play on TOUR.” Its storied history includes hosting the 1983 Ryder Cup, 1987 PGA Championship and nearly two decades of the Senior PGA Championship.
The Champion is home to the legendary “Bear Trap” (No. 15-17) which continues to live up to its reputation as one of the most demanding, three-hole stretches in the game.
“There’s a pretty good reason they call it the Bear Trap because if it doesn’t get you one way, it’s going to get you another,” says Rory Sabbatini, winner of the 2011 Honda Classic.
When asked about The Bear Trap Jack Nicklaus says, “It’s not about length, it’s about precision. It’s about guts. It’s all about what do you have in your chest that you can finish those holes.”
PGA National also boasts The Palmer, The Squire, The Haig and The Estates courses. The legendary destination has the unique distinction of being home to both the David Leadbetter Golf Academy and Dave Pelz Scoring Game School, along with offering a TOUR level fitting experience at the PGA National Club Fitting Lab.
