Acclaimed Fazio layout one of 13 sites for final qualifying stage
(LECANTO, Fla.) – The Quarry at Black Diamond – the famed Tom Fazio design in Citrus County, Fla. – has been selected to host U.S. Open sectional qualifying June 4.
Sectionals are the final qualifying stage for this year’s U.S. Open June 14-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. The Quarry is one of 13 sites (11 U.S., two international) hosting sectionals.
“Black Diamond is proud to play in a role in one of the most prestigious championships in all of sports,” says David McDonald, president of Escalante Golf, owner and operator of Black Diamond. “The Quarry is a firm, but fair test of golf and will prepare golfers well for what they’ll face at The Olympic Club.”
Since opening in 1987, the Quarry has garnered the reputation as one of the most dramatic venues for golf in the U.S. Fazio forged the almost 7,200-yard layout around the steep cliffs and lakes of two retired limestone quarries. The Quarry has been ranked one of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” by Golf Digest and among the “Top 100 Courses in the U.S.” by GOLF Magazine.
The U.S. Open is open to professionals and amateurs with a handicap index of 1.4 or lower. Entries close at 5 p.m. EDT April 25. For more information: www.USGA.org.
