Greensboro, Ga. (April 3, 2012) – Reynolds Plantation is one of only two golf venues in the nation to place four golf courses on the 2012 “Golfweek’s Best” list, as selected by the magazine in its prestigious biannual state-by-state rankings. The rankings are for golf courses accessible to resort guests and limited public play.
Reynolds Plantation’s Great Waters course is ranked No. 3, with the Oconee Course No. 5, the National Course No. 9 and The Landing No. 13. Together they continue to enrich the reputation of Reynolds Plantation as a premier golf community and preferred golf destination.
“We are honored by this special recognition,” said Mark Lammi, Vice President of Golf Operations at Reynolds Plantation. “Our staff and our members believe Reynolds Plantation is not only the best collection of golf courses in Georgia, but one of the best in the world.”
The Landing pioneered the golf industry on Lake Oconee and when it opened in 1986, the Bob Cupp design was ranked as the No. 2 golf course in Georgia, behind only Augusta National. Originally named Port Armor Golf Club, the par 72 plays to 7,051 yards, with a variety of holes that wind through wooded areas and rolling hills. Cupp completed a renovation in 2006, reviving a layout that is enjoyable and challenging for all levels of golfers.
The Great Waters Course introduced the legendary Jack Nicklaus to Lake Oconee. Debuting in 1992 and renovated by Nicklaus in 2010, Great Waters is a par 72 that plays to 7048 yards, offering some of the most dramatic golf scenery in the Southeast. With nine holes lining the banks of the lake, it offers both exciting challenges and beautiful views.
The National Course began with 18 holes in 1997, but designer Tom Fazio’s work was so impressive, he was commissioned to add nine more holes, which opened in 2000. The National features impressive elevations, wonderful views and several holes skirting the lake, as each nine plays to par 36. The site contains dense forests of hardwoods, pines, flowering wild dogwoods and some of Lake Oconee’s most dramatic lakefront topography.
The Oconee Course is an idyllic Georgia sanctuary, with designer Rees Jones providing a pure, undisturbed setting for an authentic golf experience. A par 72 that plays to 7453 yards, the course opened in 2002 alongside The Ritz-Carlton Lodge and the Reynolds Golf Academy – perfectly packaged for visiting golf enthusiasts.
The courses have attracted prestigious events, such as the Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf (now the Accenture Match Play Championship), played at Great Waters from 1995 to 1997. More recently Reynolds Plantation has hosted the PGA Cup, an international team event, as well as the PGA Club Professional National Championship and the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge, and hosts the annual Linger Longer Invitational, a top-flight collegiate event.
Beyond golf, Reynolds Plantation offers an array of recreation opportunities. More than 90 miles of shoreline along Lake Oconee, Georgia’s second-largest lake, is ideal for bass fishing, recreational boating and water skiing, as well as four marinas with complete services. The Lake Club Wellness Center and Peter Burwash International Tennis Center present options for complete fitness activities, or a relaxing escape at the pools, while tennis is available on clay and hard courts.
Delectable dining and casual atmospheres are available at The Landing Clubhouse, the Plantation Grille, and Linger Longer Steakhouse in the Oconee Clubhouse.
