EWGA Honors Janet Phillips (Richmond, Va.) As Businesswoman Of The Year

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA) – EWGA – the trend-setting organization which enables current and aspiring business and professional women to learn, connect and play through golf – has named Janet Phillips “2011 EWGA Businesswoman of the Year”.

EWGA’s Businesswoman of the Year Awards Program recognizes members who have used their success in business as a tool in enhancing and promoting the EWGA and the growth of women’s golf and whose dedication to the growth and success of her professional career includes using golf skills.

Phillips was instrumental in the Richmond Chapter’s founding nine years ago and has been on the board as well as served as Education Chairperson since its start. Due to a strong presence in the community, she has been able to reach out to golf facilities to establish relationships for chapter members to receive discounts for play, lessons and equipment at both private and public golf courses.

As a proponent of the EWGA Fairway Friends® program, Phillips trained mentors and teamed them up with mentees to encourage beginner golfers to play. Phillips has helped strengthen EWGA’s reputation with the PGA and LPGA by sharing information about the Richmond chapter both locally and nationally. She has helped increase participation in EWGA by providing discounted lessons and clinics to chapter members and hosting EWGA events targeting beginner golfers.

“This award would not be possible without the hard work and dedication from the members and board members of the Richmond chapter,” said Phillips. “I would like to thank them for recognizing me for this award and for their continued support of my endeavors in the golf community, and in helping to ‘grow the game’. For the past nine years, my involvement with the EWGA has been a labor of love and I am proud to represent the greater Richmond chapter with this award. I would also like to thank the national EWGA for recognizing me and I look forward to helping promote women’s golf in the future.”

Phillips and other EWGA award winners – including LPGA Hall of Fame member Lorena Ochoa – will be formally recognized and feted in Las Vegas, April 18-21, at EWGA’s 2012 Golfpalooza (annual conference).
