COLUMBUS, Ga., April 9, 2012 — Roy Nix, founder of the Association of Golf Clubfitting Professionals, is proud to announce that Life Member Dana Upshaw of Warner Robins GA has been named a Top 100 Fitter by Mizuno Golf. Dana has been a professional clubmaker and clubfitter (and self-admitted club junkie) for over 20 years and is considered professional clubmaking’s most honored craftsman.
His numerous awards and certifications include: AGCP Master Clubfitter; Maltby Certified Master Clubmaker; Golfsmith Master Clubfitter and Elite Clubmaker awards, Golf Clubmakers Association Clubmaker of the Year, GCA Southern Region Clubmaker of the Year three times, Professional Clubmaker’s Society Clubmaker of the Year, PCS Southern Region Clubmaker of the Year twice, the GCA Harvey Penick Award, and many, many others.
“My quest has always been to learn more every day about the complexities of golf equipment and the interactions with different golf swings and apply that knowledge to helping golfers play better and enjoy the game more,” Dana says. His state-of-the-art fitting studio in Warner Robins GA uses sophisticated instrumentation such as the FlightScope 3-D Doppler Radar launch monitor, CSwing digital video systems, and the Golftek Pro-5 swing analyzer to gather swing and club performance data to make an informed recommendation to his clients for the club heads, shafts, specifications, and set make ups that will most benefit their games. His track record for excellence is apparent by the 85 holes-in-one his clients have achieved to date. Dana has one of the most extensive fitting systems in the industry with over 60,000 interchangeable test clubs from Mizuno, Taylor Made, Callaway, Titleist, Ping, other major OEM brands, and component companies.
“As with any profession, a desire to excel and continuing your education is key to success…particularly in an industry where technical advances are frequent. I’ve spent over $70,000 in my career attending schools, seminars, and shows to continually further my knowledge. One of the best things I did in this regard was join the AGCP. The annual convention in Columbus GA and the members daily email exchange forum are both great ways to get smarter and share your knowledge with those desiring to learn.”
Prior to becoming a professional clubmaker and clubfitter, Dana served over 21 years in the United States Air Force and rose to the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His assignments included Robins AFB GA, Ubon Thailand, Andrews AFB MD, Scott AFB IL, Upper Heyford England, and numerous temporary duty assignments which allowed him to see much of the world. During his tenure at Military Airlift Command Headquarters at Scott AFB IL he was an instrumental member of the Air Force One 747 design team and was responsible for developing design concepts for the President’s aircraft and the Presidential support facility hangar.
The AGCP congratulates Dana on his latest achievement and well deserved recognition from Mizuno Golf.
Dana will be one the featured speakers at the 7th Annual Roundtable clubfitters/clubmakers convention at the Historic Columbus Iron Works and Convention Center October 16 through October 20, 2012. For additional information about the RT7 convention see http://www.agcpgolf.com/RT7/ .
