BELLINGHAM, Washington – Aerotech Golf announces that its SteelFiber composite iron shafts delivered a third-place tie at the 2012 Masters Tournament, one of the grandest and most historic venues in golf. It’s the eighth Top 10 for Aerotech shafts in the last 13 weeks on the PGA Tour.
This week, the No. 14 ranked player in the world earned a third-place tie at the Masters playing Aerotech SteelFiber i95 taper tip constant weight shafts in his irons. He hit 80.6 percent Greens-in-Regulation and produced an unforgettable eagle on the 15th hole on Sunday that tied him for the lead. Additionally, a second pro at the Masters secured a Top 20 money position playing SteelFiber shafts.
“This was an incredible Masters week. There are many golf fans who watch a lot of tournament golf, but that had to be one of the most exciting moments I’ve ever seen and I congratulate these two SteelFiber players for a great performance. The third-place player, in particular, has proven to the world that he’s one of the best players of his generation and we’re very excited that he chooses to play SteelFiber, which is the only technology of its kind on the PGA Tour,” says Aerotech Golf President Chris Hilleary.
Unlike traditional shaft designs, SteelFiber shafts combine graphite and steel fiber to seamlessly create a perfect blend of power and stability. The shafts deliver extreme performance through innovative composite engineering that combines a high-modulus graphite core with 59 miles of steel fiber lacing the shaft surface. While the shaft’s graphite core provides vibration dampening, increased clubhead speed and maximum distance, the steel fibers produce optimum weighting for a solid feel at impact and add stability and control for pinpoint accuracy. Originally developed for irons the SteelFiber technology now enhances the performance of hybrids, fairway woods and drivers.
SteelFiber shafts were the No. 1 composite irons shafts on the PGA Tour in 2010 and 2011, and scored two Top Three finishes in the 2011 PGA TOUR PlayOffs. SteelFiber shafts were also played by two of the Top Eight players in the final 2011 FedExCup standings.
