Vancouver, B.C., Canada (April 11, 2012)… GolfTEC-the world leader in golf improvement-is opening its first centre in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), in Mississauga, a short drive from Toronto Pearson Airport.
Every player wants to shoot lower scores, hit the ball longer and straighter, and have more fun on the course. Thanks to GolfTEC, which already has more than 150 improvement centres in North America and has given more than 3,500,000 lessons since teeing off in 1995, golfers can do just that.
The Mississauga centre opens on April 20 and is located at 2150 Meadowvale Boulevard. It is the first of 12 centres planned for the GTA. During a weekend-long open house the general public can experience a complimentary swing analysis with GolfTEC’s Vice President of Instruction, Andy Hilts, who is one of Golf Digest’s “Top-20 Teachers Under 40.” The centre will be open to new students and old friends April 20-22 from 11am-7pm, for tours, refreshments, and prizes.
At the Mississauga facility, Coaches Ryan Klassen and Will Dempster will use the company’s Proven Path to deliver maximum improvement and lasting results to players of all ages and abilities. Joe Lavery will be the centre’s Master Club Fitter. The centre will feature five fully equipped practice bays as well as the computers, video equipment, and other facilities for coaching, swing evaluations, and customized club fitting.
Klassen, a native of Saskatoon and Class A member of the Canadian PGA, played on the Canadian Tour and on various mini-tours. He has taught golf for more than 20 years, giving more than 20,000 lessons. He is also a Certified Club Fitter and Level Three Certified Golf Fitness Instructor, specializing in matching a student’s swing to any physical limitations.
Dempster, from Mississauga, is a Class A member of the Canadian PGA with more than 10 years’ teaching experience. He graduated with honours from Humber College in Toronto with a degree in the Professional Golf Management Program.
Lavery, originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, has lived in Ontario for more than 40 years. A club fitter for the past 20 years, he has been named to the annual list of Top 100 North American Club Fitters. He has worked numerous Canadian Opens, repairing and fitting clubs for PGA Tour Players, as well as with the top golf professionals and amateurs in the province. At the Mississauga Centre, Lavery can custom fit clients with their choice of equipment from Ping, Titleist, Mizuno, Miura, Cobra and Cleveland-Srixon.
“GolfTEC takes a holistic approach to golf improvement,” explains Klassen. “In fact, it is embedded in our name. The TEC refers to the three fundamental areas that we focus on to help people improve: ‘T’ stands for Technique, ‘E’ refers to Equipment, and the ‘C’ is for Conditioning. Our sole emphasis is helping our clients improve their golf skills, and we do it by working on those three areas.”
GolfTEC’s proprietary g-SWING system combines digital video with motion measurement, capturing body positions at 24 different points throughout the swing. A simple RED-YELLOW-GREEN display guides instruction and reinforces swing changes.
All lessons are taught one-on-one in private, indoor bays that maximize the learning experience. GolfTEC utilizes proprietary teaching technology and the skills of its Certified Personal Coaches to help golfers improve their skills and increase their enjoyment of the game.
But the lesson doesn’t end at the centre’s doors. Using the personalized, online Player Performance Centre, every student can review his or her lessons-including full video of the coach’s instructions and drills-anytime, anywhere over the internet.
GolfTEC Canada presently operates three GolfTEC Improvement Centres, two in Vancouver and one recently opened in Calgary. According to James W. Suttie, chairman of the business, there will be as many as eight centres operational by the end of this year.
