(MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica) – Cinnamon Hill Golf Course – adjacent to the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa on Jamaica’s famed Rose Hall Plantation – has been heralded as one of the country’s best according to Golf Digest’s latest “Planet Golf” rankings.
Renowned for its beautiful and historic surrounds, the par-72, 6,828-yard course is highlighted by two distinct nines. The front is links-like, playing hard and fast with several waterfront holes. Conversely, the back wends through groves of palm, coconut and cotton trees, gradually rising as high as 350 feet above sea level and showcasing commanding coastline views.
Founded in the 18th century and nestled between the crystal-clear Caribbean Sea and verdant Blue Mountains, 7,000-acre Rose Hall Plantation enjoys a rich past making it an ideal escape for golf and history aficionados. For example, famed poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s family owned it for many years, and the legend of Jamaica’s “White Witch,” Annie Palmer, took flight onsite.
“Cinnamon Hill is right in the thick of it all with gravesites, ancient aqueducts, Great Houses and waterfalls,” says Robbie Ames, Director of Golf. “There aren’t too many courses in the Western Hemisphere set on a piece of land with so much of a back story. Caddies regale players with all of these tales, making for an especially memorable round.”
To further improve the playing experience, Cinnamon Hill’s par-4 17th hole was lengthened recently into a 535-yard, par 5. Already noteworthy for aqueduct ruins just behind the green, a new, elevated tee was created to open panoramic vistas of the ocean and bring a ravine into play on the first and second shots. The change transformed what had been a difficult, long par 4 into a more thought-provoking and scenic penultimate hole.
“Stay and play” packages that include golf at Cinnamon Hill and accommodations at the neighboring, all-inclusive Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa are available. Rates begin at $953 per person (based on double occupancy).
