ORLANDO, Fla. (April 19, 2012) – Golfweek – the most authentic, authoritative and independent voice in golf – will host its annual Father & Son Open June 16-17 at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Fla. Now in its 30th year, the popular event invites amateur and professional golfers of all ages to tee it up and enjoy both friendly sport and the presentation of the Father of the Year award.
“Golfweek first began the long-standing tradition of the Father & Son Open in 1983, and since then, the tournament has become a fun-filled celebration that we look forward to hosting every year,” said Golfweek Director of Events Armand Cimaroli. “The 2012 event is especially exciting for us because we are commemorating three decades of bringing families together to compete and appreciate the game of golf.”
Returning to Innisbrook for its second consecutive year, the 2012 Father & Son Open will take place on the North and Copperhead courses and will feature a two-man, 36-hole Modified Chapman (alternate shot) format. The field will be divided into flights according to combined handicaps, with prizes being awarded to the top teams in each flight.
In addition to hosting the Father & Son Open tournament, Golfweek will also present the winner of the Father of the Year award. The 2012 award winner is Jerry Cozby, 70, who dedicated 41 years of his life to the game of golf as head professional at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Okla. With his love of the sport and commitment to its growth, Cozby helped pave the way for his three sons – Cary, Craig and Chance – to follow his footsteps into the golf business; all of them now hold prominent positions in the golf industry. With this award, Cozby will join a long line of noteworthy Father of the Year honorees, including Karsten Solheim, Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Billy Casper.
