(KNOXVILLE, TN) – Legendary golfer Billy Casper will appear at Whittle Springs Golf Course as part of a fundraising tournament benefiting the Knoxville City Junior Golf Program on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A Masters and two-time U.S. Open champion with 51 PGA TOUR victories, Casper will conduct a short-game clinic, engage in a Q&A, provide opening remarks, sign autographs, take photos and eat lunch with golfers and guests.
Open to the public and free of charge, the clinic and Q&A session begin at 9 a.m. There is limited seating, so attendees should plan to arrive early.
The tournament, a four-person scramble with shotgun start at 11 a.m., raises money to help fund the Knoxville City Junior Golf Program. The entry fee – $49.95 per player – includes greens and cart fees, boxed lunch, tee gift, on-course prizes and the chance to meet Billy Casper. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 16.

“I look forward to visiting Whittle Springs and meeting fellow golfers,” says Casper, a member of the PGA and World Golf Hall of Fame. “Raising money to introduce juniors to this wonderful game is important, and I’m happy to spend a lot of time doing so.”
“Whittle Springs Golf Course is all about community involvement,” says Rusty Howell, General Manager of Whittle Springs. “It’s not every day a legend of golf takes the time to visit Knoxville, so we encourage one and all to join us for fun on May 19.”
Knoxville’s first public golf course, Whittle Springs has undergone many incarnations over its 75-plus-year history, continuing to provide enjoyable experiences for golfers of all skill levels. The 18-hole, par-70, 5,729-yard layout is classically designed with small, undulating, bent-grass greens and sloping Bermuda fairways. The full-service golf shop features merchandise from top manufacturers, and a snack bar offers food and beverages.
During the course’s illustrious past, Whittle Springs was part of a well-known resort that included a grand hotel and swimming pool. The course was known to host various events which included golf legends Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson and Dow Finsterwald. Whittle Springs has hosted the Knoxville City Amateur Championship since the 1930s.
