TORONTO, Ontario (May 2, 2012) – Private clubs that take advantage of five trends shaping consumer behavior and decision making have an opportunity to improve their relevancy with members and create new momentum, according to Henry DeLozier, a partner of Global Golf Advisors.
Speaking at the National Club Association’s annual conference in New York on Monday, DeLozier cited statistics showing that eight in 10 clubs in North America have seen net operating incomes decline more than 20 percent since 2007. But, he added, “I think the worst of times are giving way to the best of times.”
Private clubs that acknowledge and build programs around five trends – the desire to associate with people who share common interests, the need for trustworthiness, the search for value, the importance of values and the hope for stability – will position themselves for strong growth in the years to come, according to DeLozier.
DeLozier suggested that clubs should consider these trends when building their strategic plans.
“Decide how each should be reflected in the programs, activities and behaviors of your club and its staff. Then take a look at your strategic plan and see where you need to make adjustments,” DeLozier said. “The great news is that many clubs are already ahead of the curve on these trends and attitudes. You’re already on the road to the best of times.”
