GolfNet fuses golf with web-based technology to facilitate virtual charity golf tournaments
Pinehurst, NC – May 03, 2012 – GolfNet, the leading USGA Handicap Index™ service provider in North America, announces, GolfNetCharity.com, a web site that enables Nonprofit organizations to set up and host nationwide charity golf tournaments through the Internet.
“Most traditional charity golf tournaments can only target a small segment of the national population,” says Dan Parker, Communications Manager, GolfNet. ” vTour® technology enables NPOs to reach a national audience with little overhead, while also making the donation process fun and memorable for contributors.”
GolfNet hosts a network of web sites that provide USGA Handicap Indexes™ for golfers across the United States. vTour® technology was developed over two years ago to give GolfNet members another incentive for maintaining a golf handicap. Golfers can play a round of golf at a local course, post their score online through their GolfNet account, and win prizes. An equal playing field is ensured by factoring in the course slope and rating, applying the golfer’s USGA Handicap Index™, and forcing golfers to have their score attested.
Organizations that host charity vTour® events will be able to post donation leaderboards, list sponsor logos, and describe the goal of their organization. Golfers participating in the events will have a personal profile page to state the reason for their participation. The profile page can be used for friends and families of the golfers to make donations.
“We worked with several charitable organizations to make GolfNetCharity.com a virtual replica of a traditional charity golf event,” says Jim Stracka, CEO, GolfNet. “All features were designed to generate contributions and awareness for the cause at hand.”
