One of the country’s leading junior golf advocates, Mary Bea Porter-King, has been named as the first member of the newly-created Advisory Board for Scooter Pines Holdings, LLC, a multi-media company that includes former LPGA star and current NBC/Golf Channel personality Dottie Pepper as a partner.
Scooter Pines Holdings has launched a series of children’s books featuring a golf ball character, Bogey Ballton. The first book, Bogey Tees Off: A Lesson About Being Truthful, was co-written by Pepper and Scott Fuller and illustrated by Kenneth Templeton. It was introduced in early 2012. The company is planning a series of 18 books and is also developing additional products around the character.
“We are more than thrilled to have Mary Bea as our charter Advisory Board member,” said Robert B. Levin, managing partner for Scooter Pines Holdings. “With her background in junior golf, she will be an incredible asset as we seek to integrate Bogey into existing national junior golf initiatives. She will also be instrumental in helping us identify other Advisory Board members.”
Porter-King is an acclaimed member of the golfing community. In January, she was presented the 2011 First Lady of Golf Award by The PGA of America. After a 25-year career on the LPGA Tour, she has been actively involved in the golf industry. She is the co-founder of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association; served as a member of the USGA Executive Committee from 2001-05; and as an Independent Director on The PGA of America Board of Directors from 2006-09. She is a long-time member of the PGA Rules Committee and currently serves on two national committees for both the PGA and USGA.
“When I was introduced to the concept of Bogey, I knew I wanted to be involved,” said Porter-King. “Golf can teach children such valuable lessons. Working with Dottie and the team at Scooter Pines, I look forward to helping make Bogey and the life lessons being taught through the books and other products a fixture among junior golfers and their parents.”
In addition to Bogey Tees Off: A Lesson About Being Truthful, Scooter Pines Holdings has developed two posters featuring Bogey and golf ball themes to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation and Navy SEAL Foundation. For more information on the company and these products, visit www.bogeyteesoff.com.
