Power Transfer, Alignment And Consistency All Come Into Question With Non-Cleated Footwear

May 17, 2012

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., May 17, 2012 … In a recent independent swing analysis, researchers found that the stability and traction offered by a cleated golf shoe provided a platform for a more consistent and repeatable swing. The study found that a non-cleated shoe allowed the heel, mid-foot and ankle to “slide forward” which forces the knee to realign itself over the ankle (so the golfer does not fall forward). This shifting of the knee caused a reverse weight shift – which reduced swing speed by 10-20%.

“Most golfers do not realize the importance of their stance and stability when it comes to generating consistency in the golf swing. The foot should be a stable platform that provides the basis for a solid weight shift from the right side to the left side (for a right handed golfer)” says John Hohman, Vice President of Marketing for PrideSports. “In a recent slow motion analysis of cleated and non-cleated footwear, it was shocking to see how the body reacted to the instability or movement in a non-cleated shoe. The instability caused the player to readjust his weight during the swing which not only reduced his swing speed but also allowed for greater variability.”

The study, conducted at a leading research and development center, showcased the need for the everyday golfer to wear cleated golf shoes. “Golfers are always looking for more distance and consistency from their game and this study confirms that a non-cleated shoe is working against both of those goals. We will be posting the video from the study on our website and Facebook page next week so people can see the difference a cleated shoe makes.”

Softspikes’ patented Dynamic Cleat Technology allows its cleats to be responsive to all terrains – Tee Boxes, Fairways, Roughs, Greens, etc – providing confidence on every swing of the club. In other words, longer drives, better iron shots and lower scores. For more information on Softspikes, please visit www.softspikes.com.

PrideSports was formed in January 2003 following Pride Manufacturing Company’s purchase of Softspikes, Inc., and its sister company Trisport, Ltd. of England. This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premier golf accessories company, as Pride and Softspikes are the world’s leading golf tee and golf cleat lines, respectively. Today, PrideSports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.
