Singapore: Where do American Presidents play their golf? Quite frequently, they enjoy a game at the prestigious Congressional Golf Club which has played host to numerous U.S. Presidents over the years.
And the man who has had the privilege of playing host in recent times to these powerful men has been Michael G. Leemhuis, Chief Executive Officer of the Congressional Country Club and past president of the Club Managers Association of America.
The South African born Leemhuis, and UCLA and East Carolina University educated, is an acknowledged authority in sports administration and management.
“Michael is yet another top notch global talent and we are very pleased to have been able to secure him as a speaker for the Summit. It is the caliber of speakers like him that has helped set the Asia Pacific Golf Summit as one of the top golf business events in the world,” declared Mike Sebastian, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group, the owner and producer of the Asia Pacific Golf Summit.
His work experience in sport has run through many different industries; hotel/resort management; stadium management; athlete representation; event management and private club management to name a few. He is also no stranger to major sporting events, having been very involved in the organization of a US Open (2011); USTA Tennis event; numerous PGA TOUR events and multiple ultra-distance marathon and triathlon races.
His extensive leadership and sports experience has been gained in his roles as CEO of Congressional Country Club (present); President of the Club Managers Association of America in 2009; GM/Director of Golf at the PGA TOUR; General Manager, Sport and Recreation at Sun City Resort; Tournament Director of the Nedbank Million Dollar Golf Challenge and Managing Director of Sports International.
Certification combined with education are what Leemhuis believes are the cornerstones of success in business and in life and to that end, he is a Certified Club Manager (CCM) and Certified Chief Executive (CCE) through the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), as well as a certified PGA member through the PGA of America (A13) and the PGA of South Africa (Master Professional). In 2011 he was awarded the CMAA Club Manager of the Year award for his dedication and commitment to the club industry.
