Joining this premium New York golf club includes access to an A.W. Tillinghast-designed course, a true gem of the Golden Era
New City, NY (May 31, 2012)… Paramount Country Club, located 30 miles from midtown Manhattan and featuring one of the finest golf courses in the region, is offering a National Membership to select candidates.
Founded in 1920, Paramount is a private club located on 217 acres of rolling hills high above the Hudson River in Rockland County, New York. The course was originally designed by noted Golden Age architect A.W. Tillinghast and is currently being renovated by Jim Urbina. When completed later this year the par-70, 6,724-yard course will have many of its original strategic elements restored. It also will boast the one-of-a-kind “Reef Hole,” an especially challenging par-3 design that Tillinghast invented and used on some other courses, but exists today only at Paramount.
Discerning golfers, as well as those looking for a casual, comfortable atmosphere close to the Big Apple, can join Paramount and take advantage of its many amenities, including golf, tennis, swimming pools and dining.
For $6,000 a year, National Members and spouses are entitled to 20 rounds of golf per season (some restrictions on times apply). Also included are discounted room rates in the club’s cottages, as well as unlimited use of 12 tennis courts, fully equipped fitness center, and recently renovated swimming complex featuring heated oversized pool, kid’s pool, umbrella-covered lounge area, and private changing and shower facility. National Members also have full access to the club’s dining and social events.
National Members may not own a residence within 50 miles of the Club or rent a residence within 50 miles of the club for more than 90 days per year.
Paramount has a vibrant history, dating back to its days as the weekend property of movie mogul and Paramount Pictures founder Adolf Zukor, who used it to entertain the great celebrities of the 1920s. In fact, it was Thomas A. Edison who introduced Zukor to Tillinghast, one of the leading architects of golf’s “golden era.”
Acquired by a private family in 2009, Paramount Country Club has undergone a series of improvements. Nearly $5 million has been invested in renovating the clubhouse, grounds, pool area, and tennis courts. The cottages have been modernized and the fitness center added.
The golf course had changed over the decades due to the effects of nature and 90 years of play: Urbina and the owners are dedicated to bringing the course back to Tillinghast’s original vision, including the incorporation of some long-lost and rarely seen architectural elements. The restoration is being accomplished in segments, with the course remaining open for play during the process. It is already winning raves as a lovingly restored example of Golden Age architecture at its best.
