ISABELA, Puerto Rico – May 31, 2012… The Golf Links at Royal Isabela has been named Robb Report’s 2012 “Best of the Best”.
“We are honored to be recognized as a prestigious world-class golf course,” said co-founder Stanley Pasarell. “All of us at Royal Isabela appreciate the great response that our golf course has received by everyone who visits this special place on the island, and having Robb Report recognize us further reinforces the realization of our vision.”
For the past 24 years, Robb Report has chosen the most outstanding new products and services available worldwide. The June 2012 issue has drawn international attention and acclaim by profiling in detail the best in every category, from the most distinguished hotels and golf courses to the top automobiles and extraordinary jewels.
Designed by golf architect David W. Pfaff, in collaboration with brothers Stanley and Charlie Pasarell, the founders of Royal Isabela, the golf course is unlike any other in the United States. The layout features an imaginative sequence of holes that move from valley to cliff-top, winding through breathtaking natural landscape, and featuring large greens, many with multiple tiers.
There is no one “signature” hole at Royal Isabela: Mother Nature has provided 18 of them. However, among the more notable are the island-green par-3 ninth hole, and holes 12 and 14, perched on the edge of a cliff 200 feet above the Atlantic Ocean and finishing on a thrill-ride-worthy double green. Just as creative-and inspired by the landscape-is the sixth hole, uniquely designed with two separate fairways and greens, which part at the landing area off the tee to create a par 4 and a par 5. (The hole is known locally as “Yogi Berra” in honor of the baseball legend who once reportedly said, “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”)
Every hole at Royal Isabela begins with a choice of six sets of tees, which stretch the layout to a maximum of 7,667 yards as a par 73, and 7,538 yards as a par 72 (depending on how No. 6 is played). But from the proper set of tees, the course is playable-and its beauty accessible-to golfers of every skill level.
The Golf Links at Royal Isabela is the centerpiece of a private gated community and golf club stretching along 426 dramatic, oceanfront acres. The course’s back nine plays along cliffs that soar in elevation from 150 to 350 feet above sea level and will create an intimate setting for the custom homes and villas that are planned for this small piece of island paradise. Located at the northwest edge of Puerto Rico, the property is 90 minutes from San Juan International Airport and only 20 minutes from Aguadilla International Airport.
Membership to the golf community is by invitation only, but based on availability, others may book the luxury Casitas. While on property, guests have access to the golf course and clubhouse, the signature restaurant, and other amenities.
