PALO ALTO, Calif. (May 31, 2012) – The Bay Course at Costa Navarino in southwest Greece, designed by Robert Trent Jones II Golf Course Architects, has been named to Robb Report’s 2012 “Best of the Best” list.

“It is an honor to be among the select few new golf courses recognized on this distinguished list,” RTJ II Chairman and Master Architect, Robert Trent Jones, Jr. said of the Costa Navarino project being one of four golf venues honored by Robb Report. “All of us at RTJ II who were part of this project appreciate the great response that the Bay Course has received by everyone who visits this special place in the Mediterranean.”

For the past 24 years, Robb Report has chosen the most outstanding new products and services available worldwide. The June 2012 issue has drawn international attention and acclaim by profiling in detail the best in every category, from the most distinguished hotels and golf courses to the top automobiles and extraordinary jewels.

The Bay Course, overlooking the historic Bay of Navarino and the town of Pylos, is an undulating par 71 that debuted in October 2011. With a layout offering panoramic sea and mountain views, as well as several holes along the shoreline, the Bay Course measures 6,300 yards from the longest of four sets of tee positions.

Set in a diverse, already mature landscape, the course has been designed to provide an exciting challenge for golfers of all levels. The Bay Course offers holes interchanging between three distinct environments of seaside, canyon and grove views, creating striking contrasts, blending seamlessly into the natural environment. The grove holes take in the olive trees dating centuries back.

Strict environmental protection guidelines have been applied to The Bay Course, in order to achieve sustainable golf-course management.

“The Bay Course is sculpted out of the earth and rock of Greek soil, much like the marble statues of the ancients,” Jones said. “Those deities were noble and graceful, and the golf course now reflects the same sense of beauty. This golf experience will last the test of time, to be loved and enjoyed through all the senses by those who come to play the golf course.”

One of the world’s busiest and most prolific golf architects, Jones has designed more than 270 courses in over 40 countries and more than 30 states. His courses have hosted tournaments on every major golf tour and are recognized as among the world’s finest by leading golf publications and with countless awards.

Jones Jr.’s architectural vision is to honor the cultural, geographical, and historical aspects of the land while revealing the best possible course on each site. His team of architects and support staff has built for all manner of client, from municipalities to private individuals, and is expert at creating sustainable courses that make use of the latest innovations and best practices to protect and enhance the environment.
