Highly-Decorated Layout to Serve as TOUR Veteran’s Home Course

(THE COLONY, Texas) – Old American Golf Club – the Tripp Davis, Justin Leonard design just north of Dallas – today announces a partnership with two-time PGA TOUR champion Rod Pampling.

The Double Oak-based Australian will utilize the widely-acclaimed design and its practice facilities while at home, as well as display Old American’s logo on his bag during events, including the 2012 U.S. Open at The Olympic Club (San Francisco, Calif.) June 14 – 17.

“The conditioning and emphasis on shot-making at Old American are very similar to what we experience on TOUR,” says Pampling. “It’s the perfect place for me to work on my game while in the DFW-area.”

Pampling has won twice on the PGA TOUR (2004 The International, 2006 Bay Hill Invitational), and several times internationally. He already has a top-10 and three top-25 finishes in 2012.

“We’re honored to partner with a proven champion and great guy like Rod,” says Mike McCabe, general manager. “Old American’s staff has worked tirelessly to provide a TOUR-quality experience, and we see this partnership as proof we’re delivering.”

Pampling is one of many pros who’ve played Old American since its opening in 2010. Others include K.J. Choi, Y.E. Yang, John Senden, Steven Bowditch, Paul Stankowski, and Nathan Green.

Old American was recently named No. 5 in Golfweek’s “State-by-State” rankings, making it the highest-rated course in the Metroplex. The USGA held U.S. Open qualifying at the course in May.

About Old American Golf Club

Inspired by the ‘Golden Age’ of golf course architecture between 1911 and 1937, Old American’s natural contours, hazard styles, native grasses and green shapes were influenced by such masterpieces as Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links, Prairie Dunes and Crystal Downs.

Acclaimed architect Tripp Davis, an accomplished amateur player and former All-American at the University of Oklahoma and PGA TOUR/Ryder Cup star Justin Leonard, who played his college golf at the University of Texas, toured and played a handful of America’s classic Golden Age golf courses prior to starting the design process for Old American.

The result is a golf course that emphasizes strategy and shot-making and flows with a natural rhythm from first tee to 18th green. Old American features six sets of tees, ranging from the 5215-yard forward markers to the 7174-yard “Leonard” tournament tees. Davis and Leonard conceived the routing and layout with both medal and match play in mind, as golfers are required to hold “steady to par” through a number of holes, but enticed to gamble on birdie or better during select stretches of the course.
