Participants compete for a $17,000 total purse
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The 2012 Cleveland Golf / Srixon Pro-Scratch Invitational Presented by Club Car will take place Sunday, July 22 and Monday, July 23 at Angel Park Golf Club. Over sixty, two-person teams comprised of one professional and one scratch amateur will compete for a total prize purse of more than $17,000 in a 36-hole, stroke-play, one-better-ball format. Golfers may register for the event by contacting Angel Park Tournament Director, Ben Buck, 702.967.3213, bbuck@angelpark.com, or online at AngelPark.com.
“Over the years, this event has attacked teams from many of the top clubs in the Las Vegas area to teams representing clubs as far away as Louisiana and Oregon,” said Kris Strauss, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for OB Sports Golf Management. “Of course much of the success is entirely due to the support the event has received from Cleveland Golf, Srixon, Club Car, Bellagio Resort / Casino, Grey Goose, Southern Wine & Spirits of Nevada, Meadow Gold, Budweiser, Sysco, Miller Lite and others.”
As Strauss mentioned, the teams travel to Las Vegas from California, Arizona, Washington, Hawaii, Florida and beyond to compete for cash, gift certificates and pride throughout the two-day event. The team entry fee for the event is $400 and it includes green fees, golf cart, unlimited practice balls, lunch following the first round, continental breakfast prior to final round, BBQ afterwards, awards ceremony and a tee gift.
There is also an optional team skins competition at a cost of $20 per team per day. And following first-round play, the “Cloud 9 Derby” kicks off with its unique sudden-death, alternate-shot format where the lowest team scores advance to the next hole until only one team remains. The field is limited to the top 15 teams (plus ties) that prepaid at registration prior to the first round. This fun-filled “event within the event” is part of local lore as the 1996 Cloud Nine Derby featured an exciting hole-in-one by local touring professional Robert Gamez on the first hole. Teams that don’t qualify will be placed in a separate purse for payout based on the results of the second round.

Last year, the team of professional, Joel Kijowski, and amateur, Tyler Mays, took top honors, posting 62, 65 for a 127 total score. This tied them with the team of Tommy Medina and Garrett Iverson who eventually were bumped out of the winner’s circle when Kijowski and Mays made birdie on the first playoff hole. For their efforts, Kijowski earned $1,450 in cash and Mays earned $750 in Angel Park gift certificates.
