MONTEREY, Calif. (June 18, 2012) – Sponsored by Capital Insurance Group® (CIG), the 2012 Junior Tour of Northern California (JTNC) resumes competition with the start of its Summer Series, with a two-day competition beginning Thursday, June 20 in Livermore.
Poppy Ridge Golf Course, the Northern California Golf Association’s popular 27-hole complex, will be the site of the tournament, with 18 holes scheduled each day in both boys and girls competition.
“We at CIG are excited to continue as the title sponsor of the Northern California Junior Tour,” said Peter Cazzolla, President and CEO of CIG Insurance. “If the Summer Series is anything like the Spring Series, we are in for a lot more exciting golf from the talented young players who participate in these events. They truly exemplify the benefits and rewards this great game has to offer.”
The Summer Season is the second segment of the 2012 JTNC season, which began with the Spring Series from March through May.
The field for the Summer Season opener is led by Livermore’s Casie Cathrea, the three-time winner this Spring, who is joined in the Girls Championship division by two-time Spring winner Carly Childs of Alameda. Childs and Cathrea, one and two in the current points standings, are part of 10 of the top 20 points leaders playing in the Poppy Ridge field. In the Boys Championship division, three spring winners are set to play – Austin Weatherholt of San Jose, plus Steven Sunwoo Choi and Justin Paglia, both of Dublin. Paglia is second in the Player of the Year point standings, while also in the Poppy Ridge field is Jacob Solomon of Dublin, who is seventh. For complete point standings click on 2012 Girls Player of the Year or 2012 Boys Player of the Year.
The Summer Series is scheduled over three months, with tournaments in San Juan Bautista (San Juan Oaks Golf Course) June 27-28, El Macero (El Macero Country Club) July 9-10, San Jose (San Jose Country Club) July 16-17, Pebble Beach (Poppy Hills Golf Course) July 24-25 and Stockton (Brookside Country Club) July 30-31, with the Tour Championship wrapping up the summer competition in Santa Rosa (Mayacama) August 13-14.
The third and final segment of the 2012 JTNC season is the Fall Series, which runs from September 8-9 through October 27-28.
Each JTNC tournament is 36 holes, played over two days, and features competition for boys and girls ages 18 and younger that have not started college. These amateur golfers are grouped according to ability, based on established handicaps.
Championship Flight winners are recognized with American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) performance starts and results from these tournaments are sent to the Junior Golf Scoreboard for ranking. The AJGA will also award one Junior All-Star exemption to the top 12-13 year old boy and girl on the points list.
The Junior Tour of Northern California is part of the CIG Golf Program through which CIG has become a leader in the support of community golf programs. For more information about the JTNC, visit http://www.ncga.org/juniors.
