ACME, Mich., June 25, 2012 — At the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa Golf Academy, the top teachers not only talk a good game, but students get a bonus benefit – their instruction comes from PGA professionals who are in the prime of their playing careers.
Scott Hebert, the resort’s head professional and director of instruction is a six-time Michigan Open Champion and five-time Michigan PGA Player of the Year.
Hebert is a four-time winner of the Michigan PGA Championship, was the key player on the winning USA Team in the 2009 PGA Cup, and won the 2008 PGA Professional National Championship.
Lee Houtteman, one of the lead instructors, played in the recent, National Senior PGA Championship at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor. He is also an alternate for the upcoming US Senior Open at the Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion.
Both men are among 14 players from Michigan in the field of 312 PGA professionals, competing June 24-27 for the 2012 PGA Professional National Championship at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Courses in Seaside, Calif.
Hebert and Houtteman often play in the same tournaments. They play to win, as their records show but theirs is a friendly rivalry. Just a couple of weeks ago, at the 2012 Michigan Open, Houtteman was ahead of Hebert through the first three rounds, but Hebert came on strong in the final round and finished a couple of places ahead of Houtteman.
Their on-course rivalry ends on the teaching range where the focus is on getting the best out of each student and giving the enrollees the benefit of their years of competitive experience.
