(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) — Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday announces it is once again teaming with Sports Illustrated Golf Group — comprised of GOLF Magazine, SI Golf Plus and Golf.com – as title sponsor for the 29th annual Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship held Aug. 27 – 31.

The SI Golf Group — a unit of Sports Illustrated Group — is the No. 1 media company in golf with a combined audience of more than 13 million. GOLF.com is the digital engine of the group and is among the most visited websites in the sport.

Featuring four days of competition over 72 holes, more than 3000 expected World Am participants are grouped based on gender, age and handicap index in approximately 70 flights. All division winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff where the 2012 victor will be crowned. Past overall champions have had handicaps as low as three and as high as 34. Four women have claimed the coveted title.

The winner will be a true “international” champion as 25 countries and all 50 United States are represented. The event is contested on 50-plus lauded Grand Strand layouts including the Norman, Fazio and Dye courses at Barefoot Resort, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, True Blue Golf Plantation, TPC Myrtle Beach and King’s North at Myrtle Beach National.

Registration is available at www.worldamgolf.com.

“We’re thrilled to once again partner with an esteemed media company like SI Golf Group,” says Jeff Monday, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday’s tournament director. “Getting the word out to its millions of readers has led to the Golf.com World Am becoming one of the largest and most celebrated amateur tournaments in the game.”

The entry fee includes daily tournament golf and complete access to “The World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The extravaganza highlights include a vast golf exposition, equipment demos, entertainment, open bars, concerts, prize drawings and food from fine area restaurants.

Golf funnyman / network analyst David Feherty, short game guru Dave Pelz, Golf Channel analyst Charlie Rymer, and Sports Illustrated Golf Group’s editorial team are among the noted golf celebrities appearing in the recent past.
