STANWOOD, MI – The Tullymore Golf Resort, Michigan’s fastest growing and most innovative recreation property, is once again stepping up its game, this time appealing to corporate or group planners looking for a unique getaway to hold their events.
Chief Executive Officer Terry Schieber said with the opening of two four-bedroom cottages, and the imminent construction of two more four-bedroom units, the resort now has a complement of varied accommodations that would be ideal for corporate meetings or golf groups.
The unveiling of the new cottages follows last year’s introduction of the 10-bedroom Lodge at Tullymore Golf Club. Schieber said another four cottages are also planned for this stage of the development.
The lodge and the new cottages are a short walk, within 600 yards, of the resort signature 30,000-square-foot clubhouse.
Earlier this spring a new outdoor swimming pool and hot tub came on line near the clubhouse. A putting green is another of the amenities available to guests staying in the new cottages.
“We think the cottages with dining rooms that seat eight persons are perfect for corporate retreats or groups of golfers,” Schieber said.
As is the usual case at Tullymore, the addition of the cottages is not the full story of the unparalleled growth of the resort near Big Rapids in north central west Michigan.
Two new four-bedroom units, and one with five bedrooms, were recently completed at the ultra luxurious Residence Club overlooking the 18th fairway of the Tullymore courseResidence Club units with a total of 18 bedrooms would be available for corporate considerations. Another four homes each with four bedrooms are also in the rental pool.
“Whatever anyone wants in accommodations we can provide it at Tullymore,” Schieber said. “We have upgraded our service and offer house keeping on a daily basis in all the units.”
He said the resort also caters breakfast and dinner for anyone requesting such service in the residences.
“We can handle groups of up to 60 persons with the meeting rooms and space we have in the clubhouse. Our board room with seating for 12 is also available,” he said. Schieber said he has seen an uptick of midweek bookings for corporate events.
“We think that type of business is about to take off and we are ready for it,” Schieber said.
In the past five years the developers of Tullymore invested more than $50 million in the property they bought as two rural golf courses, the Tullymore layout and the St. Ives Golf Club six miles away.
The French Norman style clubhouse at St. Ives was renovated into a sports bar. The 44-room inn next door has been upgraded.
Last year, Schieber announced a home trade-in program in which the resort bought hard-to-sell homes from owners who in turn agreed to buy a home from Tullymore. The resort paid the appraised value for the homes.
The program was wildly successful as all 16 homes in the resort’s inventory were sold within a year, Schieber said.
The latest sales program at Tullymore is for building lots priced at $49,000 with two major incentives thrown in.
Each lot comes with a lifetime golf membership valued at $20,000 for play on the Tullymore and St. Ives courses. Buyers who build on their lots within two years using Tullymore’s building company for construction will get a refund of $15,000.
All this activity, however, is anchored by the two golf courses.
The Tullymore course was designed by one of the nation’s top architects, Jim Engh of Colorado. It has won numerous national awards and is ranked15th among U.S. public resort courses by Golf Digest magazine. The older St. Ives course designed by veteran architect Jerry Matthews of Lansing and has also won an impressive number of awards.
