Facility to Serve as the Site of the Recently Created Azerbaijan Golf Federation
Scottsdale, Ariz. (July 12, 2012) – Troon,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing, announced today the signing of Quba Golf Club in Azerbaijan, located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe.
The new facility, near the capital city of Baku, is the first golf development of its kind in the country and will also serve as the head offices of the recently-formed Azerbaijan Golf Federation. Several holes are set to be unveiled in September 2012 with the full 18-hole championship course completed by October 2012, along with extensive practice facilities and accommodations developed by one of the world’s foremost construction companies, ZQAN Construction. Troon will manage the facility and golf course, designed by International Design Group and constructed by Total Golf Construction.
“We’re delighted to have been selected as the management team at Quba Golf Club as they pioneer the game of golf in Azerbaijan,” commented Bruce Glasco, Troon’s Senior Vice-President and Managing Director, International Operations. “The facility’s central location and the involvement of the national governing body will ensure that quality resonates throughout the resort. What is being created is an intriguing and ground-breaking development for the people of Azerbaijan and its international guests, so naturally we look forward to bringing our expertise to the table and playing a crucial part in the success of what will be an exceptional golf resort.”
Quba Golf Club is located between the coast of the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. With several dramatic changes in elevation, the site will offer golfers breath-taking views over the surrounding mountain backdrops, while Troon’s experience in managing high-profile tournament venues highlights the championship ambitions of the developers and will ensure quality conditioning throughout. The resort will also feature a 200-bedroom, five-star hotel on site.
“This will be the first golfing development in Azerbaijan and it became immediately clear that employing the services and unrivalled industry knowledge of Troon was something that we simply had to do,” said Mr. Anar Mammedov, President of the National Golf Federation. “We’re delighted that they’re now involved and they complete a stellar team involved in bringing this magnificent project to life. Ultimately we are striving for excellence and believe that the quality experiences provided by Troon will ensure the satisfaction of our guests and promote the growth of golf in the country.”
