U.S. military members have longstanding tradition of carrying a unique coin
Fairhaven, MA (July 13, 2012) – As Patriot Golf Day approaches, Pinnacle, a leader in the distance and value golf ball category, is offering golfers a special opportunity to show their support for the Folds of Honor Foundation and America’s heroes. Pinnacle has produced a limited edition Folds of Honor and Pinnacle Commemorative Coin, now available inside specially marked Pinnacle Gold golf ball 15-packs.
Patriot Golf Day, held every Labor Day weekend since 2007, is the flagship fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women killed or disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, golfers across the country are asked to donate $1 on top of their green fees at participating courses to help fund these scholarships.
Pinnacle, a proud supporter of Folds of Honor as well as a founding member of Patriot Golf Day, created the Folds of Honor Commemorative Coin in honor of the brave men and women who serve this country. The coin, which can be used as a golf ball marker, is 1.75 inches in diameter and made of zinc with an antique silver finish, featuring the Folds of Honor logo along with the words, “HONORING THEIR SACRIFICE / EDUCATING THEIR LEGACY.”
“Pinnacle has been a tremendous mission partner for Folds of Honor in supporting the families of our military heroes,” said Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, PGA Professional and founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation. “We hope that golfers will keep the commemorative coin as a constant reminder of what others have done so that we can all be free.”
U.S. military members have a longstanding tradition of carrying a unique coin, one that identified the bearer as part of a particular unit and captured the essence of their affiliation and pride.
The tradition began years ago when a young pilot gave special coins to the members of his squadron as a token of their time together. Soon after, one of the pilots in the squadron was shot down in enemy territory. The enemy soldiers confiscated all his identification except for the special coin, which the pilot was able to conceal in a pouch around his neck. Later, this coin would be his key to freedom when a soldier from an allied country recognized the insignia on the coin.
This summer, any golfer that purchases a specially marked Pinnacle Gold 15-ball pack (MSRP: $20) will receive the Folds of Honor Commemorative Coin included inside the packaging as a special free gift*.
Pinnacle is also asking golfers who receive a Folds of Honor Commemorative Coin to show their support by posting pictures of themselves holding the coin or using it on the golf course on the Pinnacle Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pinnaclegolf).
