BELLEVUE, Wash. “Country Club of New Bedford is a wonderful traditional club with fine golf and beautiful surroundings,” said McRedmond Morelli, founder and CEO of Boxgroove. “Boxgroove members who are traveling in New England surely will want to include this venue in their plans.”
About Country Club of New Bedford
For over 100 years, the Country Club of New Bedford has had a great tradition, which has led to its current prestigious reputation in the New England area. The club had a modest beginning, which took place before the turn of the 20th century. The original club, called the Hawthorne Club, was formed by several golf enthusiasts and was located in the West End of New Bedford. The six-hole layout became so popular that the club founders decided the course was too short and crowded. They closed the course and moved it to the current site. In 1923 the clubhouse burned to the ground, and the current clubhouse was built over the original foundation in 1924, with several improvements over the years.
Well-known golf-course architect Willie Park had planned, designed and supervised the building of the original nine holes. In 1924, renowned golf-course architect Donald Ross redesigned the course, eventually making it into an 18-hole layout. In 2006 a major renovation of the club and pro shop was completed. The club has produced a number of outstanding players, and many prestigious events have been held here through the years. Country Club of New Bedford has welcomed dignitaries from government, theatre, athletics and golf.
“Boxgroove is a tremendous added-value service to our membership, especially those who travel,” said Joe Cordani Jr., PGA Head Professional at Country Club of New Bedford. “Boxgroove provides a terrific way to showcase our Donald Ross layout, and networking with other clubs across the country will only enhance all who get involved.”
