LAKE MARY, FL – (July 18, 2012) Golf to End Cancer (G2EC) raised nearly $8,000 for cancer prevention and wellness this past weekend at the Original Tee Golf Classic in New Jersey.
“We were honored when Wendell Haskins and Anthea Noel of the Original Tee Golf Classic offered us such a meaningful alliance to promote Golf to End Cancer at their annual event,” stated Anthony G. Stepney, G2EC’s Executive Director. “While promoting their mission of honoring a great icon such as George Gervin, Original Tee graciously promoted our cause to prevent diseases such as cancer, and promoting health and wellness. It’s great to see the golf industry collaborating for the good of others.”
The Original Tee Golf Classic (OTGC) is an annual celebrity/amateur tournament created to celebrate the African American golf enthusiast and pay homage to pioneers in the game of golf. In its 13th year, this two-day event draws over 300 golf enthusiasts from across the country, representing leaders in business, finance, entertainment, sports and technology. Event sponsors included Ciroc, The NBA, Pepsi, Mercedes Benz and Converse.
“Our OTGC event is a multi-cultural event which celebrates African Americans who share a love for this sport,” said Wendell Haskins founder/president of OTGC. “No matter our color or race, we are all affected by cancer.”
Haskins continues, “Personally, I lost my mother to cancer, and more recently my sister is a cancer survivor, so having Golf to End Cancer participate at the Original Tee event was a great fit. I was able to do something I love-play golf-at the same time raising funds for others.”
Golf to End Cancer is currently registering golfers and sponsors for its own upcoming premier golf outing, the 2nd Annual Golf To End Cancer VIP Outing, scheduled for September 9 and 10, 2012. The event is located at the prestigious Caves Valley Golf Club, site of the 2002 Senior U.S. Open; and benefits the Golf To End Cancer program of Marathon of Miracles.
About Golf to End Cancer.
Golf to End Cancer (G2EC) is a program of Marathon of Miracles (MOM, www.marathonofmiracles.org), a 6-year-old nonprofit which focuses on wellness and cancer prevention. Launched in 2011 at the PGA Fall Expo in Las Vegas, G2EC is a movement offering wellness and cancer prevention education to golfers through its web site (www.golftoendcancer.com), through corporate partnerships and at G2EC Wellness Day events. MOM and G2EC were founded by writer, producer and TV Host A.J. Ali and his wife Jane, a breast cancer survivor. The two hope to raise the profile of wellness and cancer prevention education in the golf world in order to reach business and community leaders who can reach the masses.
