QUINCY, MASS. – Vern Chance lived up to his name, filled out an entry form for Fairways + Greens’ Great Maui Golf Getaway Giveaway, and now he and his wife are island bound – to Ka’anapali Beach, where they’ll enjoy a four-day, four-night stay including two rounds of golf, deluxe resort accommodations, a luau dinner and more, plus roundtrip airfare.
Chance’s name was chosen at random from nearly 1,500 entrants who signed up online, via mail or in person at such events as April’s Haggin Oaks Golf Expo in Sacramento, Calif. That’s where Chance, a resident of nearby Carmichael, stopped by the Fairways + Greens booth and threw his hat in the ring for the prize valued at over $4,000.
“My wife and I have never been fortunate enough to visit Hawaii, so when I got the call my first thought was ‘please be real,'” Chance said. “Later that night, she summed up our emotions best when she said, ‘I’m too excited to sleep.’ As an avid golfer, I’m absolutely giddy with anticipation. But, as the 17-year husband of a wonderful woman I’m overjoyed to the point of tears. Thank you Fairways + Greens for making a dream come true!”
An avid golfer who was preparing for a summer trip to his native Illinois when he got the congratulatory call from Fairways + Greens Publisher Vic Williams, Chance and his wife are now working with the Ka’anapali Beach Resort Association to plan their visit. Once they arrive on Maui and make their way to the famed western side they’ll check into the Whaler on Ka’anapali Beach for a four-night stay. Along the way they’ll play both Royal Kaanapali and the Kaanapali Kai course, take in a traditional Royal Lahaina Luau and enjoy dinner at Leilani’s on the Beach.
