BELLINGHAM, Washington – Aerotech Golf announces that its SteelFiber composite iron shafts doubled up with two Top 10 money positions at the 2012 Open Championship, the oldest major championship in golf. Garnering third- and ninth-place ties at the 2012 Open Championship, Aerotech continued its current hot streak on the PGA Tour.
The Royal Lytham & St. Annes course in Lancashire, England, offered challenges throughout the weekend and the winds kicked up on Sunday to make accuracy a real performance commodity, but players with Aerotech SteelFiber shafts remained consistent. The third-place finisher equaled the major championship record for lowest score through 36 holes, playing Aerotech SteelFiber i95 taper tip constant weight shafts in his Bridgestone irons, while the No. 9 ranked player in the world tied for nineth also using Bridgestone irons fit with SteelFiber shafts.
“The Open Championship is the most revered tournament in golf with an incredible history. We’re very excited to see our SteelFiber shafts in play in such a historic venue, and to capture two of the Top 10 money positions. SteelFiber composite technology is one-of-a-kind on the PGA Tour. Graphite shafts produce greater vibration dampening and less fatigue and steel shafts offer more consistency – SteelFiber shafts bring together these two materials to produce the power of graphite and stability of steel,” says Aerotech Golf President Chris Hilleary.
Unlike traditional shaft designs, SteelFiber shafts combine graphite and steel fiber to seamlessly create a perfect blend of power and stability. The shafts deliver extreme performance through innovative composite engineering that combines a high-modulus graphite core with 59 miles of steel fiber lacing the shaft surface. While the shaft’s graphite core provides vibration dampening, increased clubhead speed and maximum distance, the steel fibers produce optimum weighting for a solid feel at impact and add stability and control for pinpoint accuracy. Originally developed for irons the SteelFiber technology now enhances the performance of hybrids, fairway woods and drivers.
SteelFiber shafts were the No. 1 composite irons shafts on the PGA Tour in 2010 and 2011, and scored two Top Three finishes in the 2011 PGA TOUR Playoffs. SteelFiber shafts were also played by two of the Top Eight players in the final 2011 FedExCup standings.
