Alpharetta, Georgia (July 31, 2012) – Affiniti Golf Partners (www.affinitigolf.com) has named Otis Smith head golf professional at St. Marlo Country Club in Duluth, GA, according to Director of Operations Lee Andrea.
An Atlanta-native, Smith comes to St. Marlo after a high-profile position as interim head golf professional at Charlie Yates Golf Course at East Lake, sister course to the famed East Lake Golf Club where Atlanta icon Bobby Jones learned to play golf.
Before assuming the head professional position, Smith drove the retail program at Charlie Yates as an assistant, helping earn the head professional the 2008 Merchandiser of the Year award from the Georgia PGA Section. That same year Smith and co-worker Rachel Melendez, a First Tee instructor, were partner-contestants on Golf Channel’s Big Break X Michigan.
Over the last several years Smith also has taught golf classes at several Atlanta universities and colleges, including Emory University, Agnes Scott, Spellman and Morehouse. He also coaches youth sports, and mentors children in sports and education.
Says Andrea, “We’re very pleased to have Otis on board. His broad experience in golf shop operations, teaching and elite competition brings a unique asset to St. Marlo Country Club.”
A former six-year Army veteran, Smith lives with his wife and two children in Stone Mountain, GA.
