One of the world’s greatest professional golfers, Colin Montgomerie will be featured as a special celebrity speaker at the 2012 Asia Pacific Golf Summit scheduled to be held in Brunei Darussalam on December 11-13.

When contacted, Colin said, “I am very much looking forward to speaking at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit,” an accomplished public speaker.

Affectionately known to millions as ‘Monty’, Colin has won the European Tour’s Order of Merit a record eight times and has had 41 tournament victories around the world with his most recent achievement being captain of the winning 2010 Ryder Cup Team at Celtic Manor.

Delegates to the Summit will have the opportunity to hear Colin speak on the growth of golf in Asia, and on his golf course design ideas, when he appears as a keynote speaker.

Commenting on this special appearance, Mike Sebastian, chief executive officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group, the owner and producer of the Summit said, “We are very fortunate to have a golf celebrity of Monty’s stature speak at the Summit and it also goes to show the importance that he attaches to attending the Summit in Brunei Darussalam”.

“I am going to talk about the development of golf in Asia, as this is critical for the future growth of the game. I am going to talk about how we can bring this Western game to the East, and how we can still do a lot more to encourage people to take up the game, and how we can give more opportunities for anyone out there who might be a potential golfing genius,” explained Colin.

Colin has led Europe to Ryder Cup glory against the United States at The Celtic Manor Resort in October 2010, confirming his legendary status in the biennial contest. As captain, he inspired his Team Europe to a 14½-13½ victory. The Ryder Cup is in his blood and as a player he represented Europe eight times, becoming in 2006 the second European to win the contest five times.

All golf fans in the Sultanate will also have the very unique opportunity of seeing Colin in competition as he will be playing for Team Europe in the 2012 Royal Trophy Tournament to be played at the Empire Hotel and Country Club on December 14-16.
