(Carmel, CA, August 16, 2012) As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations, The Shivas Irons Society (www.shivas.org) has realized a long-held intention of establishing an online gallery of fine art and photography inspired by the game of golf.
Steve Cohen, president of the Society, said, “The Gallery takes its inspiration from the four original issues of the Journal of the Shivas Irons Society (www.shivas.org/TheJournal.aspx), which was intended to showcase established and emerging artists who are making a unique contribution to the art of the game.”
Seven artists are currently represented by the new online gallery, found at www.shivas.org/Gallery.aspx; more will be added as the site evolves. Among them are internationally acclaimed golf landscape photographers Joann Dost and Evan Schiller, leading golf artist Linda Hartough, and fine artists Geoff Cunningham and Josh Smith.
Open and signed and numbered limited editions are available for most works, along with certificates of authenticity from the artists. The pieces are also reproduced in a variety of sizes and formats to accommodate individual preferences.
“We’re delighted by the confidence these outstanding artists have placed in the Society to help get their work out to the golfing public,” said Cohen. “We’re opening with a great lineup of very collectible pieces, and this is only the beginning for the Gallery.”
The Shivas Irons Society is 501c(3) non-profit organization, founded in 1992 and dedicated to providing opportunities for community, discovery and transformation through golf. The Society, which has members around the world, takes its name from the protagonist in Michael Murphy’s classic novel, Golf in the Kingdom.
