A Sunday rain delay pushed the finish of the Wyndham Championship to Monday morning with a 6th SuperStroke win within grasp. When the final putt fell on 18, an 8-time PGA Tour winner claimed the championship after shooting a final round 66, needed only 26 putts for the round.
The Spanish born player used a special edition European Ryder Cup UltraSlim to earn his first PGA Tour victory since the 2008 Players Championship. The Spaniard was 2nd in putts per GIR (1.635) and T2 in putts per round (26.8) using his SuperStroke grip.
“I am proud of the way I played coming in,” said the player, who had four birdies in a five-hole stretch starting at the 13th hole on Monday. “Hopefully this will secure my spot in the Ryder Cup.”
With this win, the 32 year old Spaniard moved up 69 places in the FedEx cup race to 33rd and all but secured his automatic bid on the European Ryder Cup team with one week remaining.
Along with the win, SuperStroke grips placed 2 more top 10’s, T4 and T7, winning another $1.5 million in Tour player earnings. With six wins in 2012, SuperStroke Golf has once again proved to be the #1 jumbo putter grips on the PGA Tour.
Total won in 2012 (to date): $25.5 Million
