Charity event to benefit local veterans
LAKEWOOD, Wash. (Aug 24, 2012) – In recognition of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, golfers from around the community are invited to the American Lake Veterans Rehabilitation Center & Golf Course for the annual 9/11 memorial golf tournament. Golfers will tee off on Friday, Sept., 14, with all proceeds going toward the Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course, a 501.c.3 charitable organization.
The scramble format tournament is a round of 18 holes with choice of morning or afternoon tee time. Golfers may enter as an individual ($175), a pair ($300), or a foursome ($500). Participants will enjoy skill challenges around the course and a barbecue lunch. In addition, raffle tickets, T-shirts, golf caps, and mulligans will be available for purchase.
Golfers may register online at www.veterangolf.org or pick up a form at the golf course front desk, located at 9600 Veterans Drive S.W. in Lakewood.
Non-golfers may support the Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course by sponsoring a foursome for Wounded Warriors/Veterans for $500, a hole or tee box for $250 or $500, or by a direct donation. All contributions are tax deductible.
Volunteers have maintained, managed and operated the American Lake Veterans Golf Course since 1995 when the Veterans Administration discounted funding VA golf courses. The Friends of American Lake Veterans Golf Course is the only source of major funding for a golf course which disabled veterans can use for physical and mental rehabilitation.
