Pendergast becomes second female in history to win the PGA of America award
NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Aug. 30, 2012 – KemperSports is proud to announce that Amy Pendergast, PGA head professional and director of retail for Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, has been named the 2012 PGA Merchandiser of the Year for resort facilities. This national award, given annually by The PGA of America, will be presented to Pendergast at the PGA Awards Ceremony during the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Fla., in January 2013. Pendergast earned the award through a selection process held during the PGA Championship earlier this month in South Carolina. With this announcement, Pendergast becomes only the second female in history to be named a PGA Merchandiser of the Year.
“Amy has been a valuable asset and tremendous leader for the staff at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort,” said Hank Hickox, vice president of KemperSports and general manager of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. “We are very proud of her accomplishments and are honored that this award has been presented to a very deserving member of our staff.”
Pendergast, a native of North Bend, Ore., was elected to PGA membership in December 2010 and became eligible for the PGA Merchandiser of the Year Award for the first time this year. She has been a member of the KemperSports team and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort staff since 2000. During this time, she was also recognized by KemperSports on multiple occasions as Bandon Dunes Golf Resort received the Retailer of the Year Award in 2001, 2004 and 2005, during the annual KemperSports Leadership Conference. Pendergast is also the 2011 recipient of the Merchandiser of the Year Award (resort facility category) for the Pacific Northwest PGA Section.
“We are extremely pleased that The PGA of America has recognized Amy as the 2012 Merchandiser of the Year for resort facilities,” said Josh Lesnik, president of KemperSports. “Amy goes above and beyond to deliver the best service and products in the industry to our guests at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, and she has greatly contributed to the success of the resort.”
The Merchandiser of the Year Award was established in 1978 by The PGA of America and Sports Illustrated. This distinguished award recognizes PGA Professionals who have excelled as merchandisers in the promotion of golf in three categories: private, public and resort facilities. Candidates are nominated by their respective PGA Section offices and must have demonstrated excellence and success in the planning and promotion of sales through merchandising techniques, which include display and advertising.
KemperSports has managed Bandon Dunes Golf Resort since its opening in 1999 and the facility was recently named the No. 1 golf resort in North America by both Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine. Bandon Dunes Golf Resort features four 18-hole courses – Bandon Dunes, Pacific Dunes, Bandon Trails and Old Macdonald – a new 13-hole par 3 course, Bandon Preserve, a practice center, accommodations for more than 250 guests and several unique dining facilities.
