Greensboro, Ga. (Sept. 4, 2012) – Placing four golf courses from its collection on the latest GOLF Magazine list of “Best Courses Near You,” Reynolds Plantation was the only golf community in the country recognized for this level of excellence in the prestigious biannual state-by-state rankings.
On the “Best Near You” Top 15 list for Georgia, Reynolds Plantation’s Great Waters course is ranked No. 3, with the Oconee Course No. 4, the National Course No. 5 and The Landing No. 12. Together the Lake Oconee gems continue to enrich the reputation of Reynolds Plantation as a premier golf community and preferred golf destination.
The “Best Courses Near You” is a state-by-state compilation of golf courses accessible to guest and/or public play. It is part of GOLF’s “Top 100 Courses You Can Play” rankings published in the September 2012 issue and online at www.golf.com. Great Waters (#43) and Oconee (#62) also were included in the Top 100 Courses You Can Play (2012).
“It’s very rewarding to see four golf courses at Reynolds Plantation honored on this list,” said Mark Lammi, Vice President of Golf Operations at Reynolds Plantation. “We are proud of the quality and diversity our courses offer and it’s nice to know that others think highly of us as well. We believe we not only have the greatest collection of courses in Georgia, but quite possibly one of the best in the world.”
The Landing pioneered the golf industry on Lake Oconee and when it opened in 1986, the Bob Cupp design was ranked as the No. 2 golf course in Georgia, behind only Augusta National. The Great Waters Course introduced the legendary Jack Nicklaus to Lake Oconee, debuting in 1992 and renovated by Nicklaus in 2010. The National Course began with 18 holes in 1997, but designer Tom Fazio’s work was so impressive, he was commissioned to add nine more holes, which opened in 2000. The Oconee Course is an idyllic Georgia sanctuary, with designer Rees Jones providing a pure, undisturbed setting for an authentic golf experience.
Reynolds Plantation is one of only two golf venues in the nation to place four golf courses on the prestigious GOLF Magazine state-by-state “Best Near You” rankings. The other is Bandon Dunes in Oregon, which is a golf resort exclusively, while Reynolds Plantation was created around Lake Oconee, features luxury homes and cottages, both on the golf courses and the shoreline.
Beyond golf, Reynolds Plantation offers an array of recreation opportunities. More than 90 miles of shoreline along Lake Oconee, Georgia’s second-largest lake, is ideal for bass fishing, recreational boating and water skiing, as well as four marinas with complete services. The Lake Club Wellness Center and Peter Burwash International Tennis Center present options for complete fitness activities, or a relaxing escape at the pools, while tennis is available on clay and hard courts. Delectable dining and casual atmospheres are available at The Landing Clubhouse, the Plantation Grille, and Linger Longer Steakhouse in the Oconee Clubhouse.
Vacation guests at Reynolds Plantation can choose from individual cottages within the private gates, while enjoying a variety of amenities. Accommodations also are available at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge on property.
