event to benefit the youth programs and activities of the New Jersey Golf Foundation, with primary beneficiary being “Golf in Schools” program that impacts 95,000 boys & girls
at 165 schools in New Jersey
PISCATAWAY, N.J., August 28, 2012 – Eagle Ridge Golf Club, a semi-private club in Lakewood, N.J., offering 27 holes of Championship Golf, will serve as the host venue for the 2nd Annual New Jersey Senior Masters, one of the premier events on the Sunbelt Senior Tour/Charity Pro Am Tour, September 10-14, 2012. The event is highlighted by a Monday Pro-am & FREE junior clinic, followed by a 54-hole stroke play championship.
As part of the Monday Pro-am, sponsor and member teams will be paired with a senior pro to compete in an 18-hole event to support youth programs and activities in conjunction with the New Jersey Golf Foundation (NJGF). The NJGF is the charitable arm of the New Jersey Section, PGA of America (NJPGA), and promotes and supports amateur golf in New Jersey and its mission to teach life lessons through golf. The primary beneficiary of this event is “Golf in Schools,” an initiative designed to introduce the game to children by incorporating it into the physical education curriculum at elementary and middle schools. The program currently impacts more than 95,000 elementary and middle school kids throughout New Jersey at 165 schools, and continues to grow.
“We truly appreciate the tireless efforts of PGA Professional and General Manager at Eagle Ridge Golf Club, Mike Attara,” said Tom Eubank, President of the Charity Pro Am Tour. “Mike has been instrumental in generating excitement throughout the community to support the event and the beneficiaries, while also helping to secure some of the top Senior Professionals to compete in the event.”
“It has been amazing to see how the community, our members, and vendors have come together to support the event. We expect the tournament to continue growing every year to help support New Jersey Golf Foundation youth programs and scholarships,” said Attara.
This year’s strong field is highlighted by Danny Edwards, who has five PGA Tour wins and competed in this year’s Senior British Open, and Dave Rummells, Life Member PGA and Champions Tour golfer. Other previous Champions Tour Members and past PGA Tour Members in the field include: Jim Chancey; Tom Eubank, 2012 Senior British Open participant; Jack Ferenz, 2011 winner and course record holder (63); John Ross; Javier Sanchez; Greg Sweatt and Gary Trivisonno.
Several local and national companies and individual golfers have embraced and supported this event and the Tournament Charity. In fact, the four major sponsors, including Jim Curley Buick GMC KIA; All County Siding; Standard Equipment and Six Flags Great Adventure, have all re-committed and will be part of the 2012 event. Additionally, several new sponsors, including the Golf Channel, will have a presence at this year’s event.
There will be a FREE clinic for juniors at 4 p.m. on September 10 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club followed by an exhibition by the Senior Pros at 5 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
