SAN MARTIN, Calif. (September 6, 2012) … Nick Bailey has been selected to be the new Director Of Golf, while Ray Otis has been promoted to Head Golf Professional at CordeValle, a Rosewood Resort.
Bailey, 30, has been a member of the CordeValle staff since 2005, serving in the position of Head Golf Professional since 2009. He replaces Michael Marion, who recently assumed the newly created position of Director of Golf Operations and Memberships at CordeValle. Otis, 35, moves up from First Assistant Professional into the position vacated by Bailey. Otis joined the staff at CordeValle in 2006 following a brief pro tour career.
As Director of Golf, Bailey will be responsible for overseeing all major events at the resort, including the annual Frys.com Open on the PGA Tour, and the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship in 2013. He also is to oversee member and group events.
“I am looking forward to the new responsibilities and could not be happier that CordeValle selected me for the position,” Bailey said. “It has been very rewarding to be part of the golf team and work with our members and guests.”
A Bay Area product from Cupertino, Bailey pursued a career in the golf industry immediately upon graduating from Monta Vista High School. He is a 2004 honors graduate of New Mexico State University, where he completed the Professional Golf Management Program, while also earning a marketing degree.
An avid sportsman, Bailey enjoys golf, baseball, hunting, snowboarding and wakeboarding, along with other competitive sports. A passionate San Francisco Giants fan, he enjoys attending games at AT&T Park, when time allows. He and his wife Nikki live in San Jose.
Otis, a San Jose native who has been part of the Northern California competitive golf scene since he was 12, is a Bellarmine Prep product who went on to play collegiate golf at the University of San Francisco and University of Nevada (Reno), where he graduated in 2000.
“This is a special opportunity for me and I am really glad that it came at CordeValle,” Otis said of being awarded his first Head Golf Professional position. “We have a great team and with Michael and Nick here, that is great for my transition.”
Otis has been honored by the Northern California PGA as Player of the Year (2006) and Assistant Professional of the Year (2011). At CordeValle, he has helped facilitate all member events and has played a significant role in the club hosting the PGA Tour event and 2011 PGA Cup.
Also as part of the CordeValle golf staff changes, Andrew Elliott has been promoted to First Assistant. Elliott, who has been at CordeValle for two years, played college golf at Long Beach City College and then graduated from UNLV with a degree in Recreation, with a concentration in the PGA Golf Management program.
CordeValle is a secluded 1,700-acre sanctuary blended into the harmony of the natural mountainside landscape that stretches along the inland foothills of Northern California’s scenic Santa Cruz Mountains. Featuring an award-winning Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course, CordeValle provides an intimate experience for golf purists, but also is recognized as a world-class championship venue.
CordeValle guests enjoy world-class amenities that extend beyond golf, including a 35,000 square-foot clubhouse with a variety of meeting space, the signature Sense® spa, a separate clubhouse at the tennis center, intimate swimming and fitness areas, three distinctive dining options, onsite vineyard and Tuscan style winery.
