The A List: The Best Golf Cities In The U.S.

September 12, 2012

Portland, Ore. (Sept. 12, 2012) – In a few weeks’ time, the Ryder Cup will be played at Medinah Country Club in Chicago. Does this mean the Windy City is the Winning City when it comes to being America’s leading golf metropolis?

Sorry, but no.

The A Position-the web’s leading site for golf and travel-has just named the “Best Golf City in the U.S.” And the winner is? New York-the Big Apple. Chicago finished fourth.

The writers at The A Position were polled for their choices of America’s top golf cities, with the final list a geographic spread from coast to coast, north to south. While New York took the top spot, it faced tough competition. Not only from expected warm-weather golf centers such as Orlando, Scottsdale, and San Diego, but also strong challenges from northern climes with shorter seasons-including Philadelphia, Boston, and Traverse City, Michigan.

The full list, in order, can be found at http://theaposition.com/Articles/1/1526/1/The-A-List-What-Is-The-Best-Golf-City-in-the-US.

Cities were ranked based on numerous factors, from the number of local courses to the local golf history and tradition.

The A Position named a dozen great golf towns, but there are many more across the country. And with so much golf to choose from, the real winners are America’s golfers and the many golf visitors who come to these shores.

The A Position.com is a network of websites featuring the world’s best golf and travel writers. The term “The A Position” refers to the best place a golfer can land his tee shot. On the web, it refers to the site readers will want to land on for great golf and travel journalism.
